Pat Robertson on Postmodernism

June 17th, 2005

“I don’t know what it is exactly, but it’s bad.”

Pat Robertson, the doddering Christian fundaloony on CBN’s “The 700 Club” was emailed a letter asking his opinion about postmodernism. After equivocating for a moment he ended up with that gem of an insight.

Darth Bush

May 21st, 2005

Anakin: “If you’re not with me, then you’re against me”
Obi Wan: “Only the Sith see things in terms of absolutes!”

BEST LINE OF THE MOVIE. Good ‘ole Dubya is forever Darth Bush for me now bwaaaahahahahaha.

Seriously, go see it. Okay I know I’m a fan, and I grew up wanting to *be* Princess Leia, but truly cool movie that sets up Star Wars Ep. 1 brilliantly.

P.S. Could have dialogue slightly incorrect, ‘coz I was so entranced at the time, but you get the picture.

A group of us Aussie Mozzies went and saw it tonight, we were the second lot in line in a packed out theatre, although I noticed no one was dressed up. Those early Amidala costumes are just *made* for hijab wearing Muslim women to copy.

Sufi Poem

October 26th, 2004

Behold the words of the Qur’an:
"We are closer to you than you are yourself."
Comprehend your relationship with God!
He is closer to us than our own selves.
Yet through ignorance we search for Him
Wandering from door to door.

-Sufi poem

Unfortunately the rest of the paper isn’t quite so good as this gem of a quote, but it really brought home to me the need to question all our underlying philosophies that have come packaged with our education.

Drawing the Boundaries of Salvation

September 21st, 2003

“We have to draw the boundaries of salvation in some other way, other than those of our respective historical-collective identities. We have to provide to modern education an inter-religious foundation. We have to simplify, universalize, and intensify this foundation. This will involve separating form from content. This will imply a real testimony of God’s Oneness, transcendence and universality.” (Askari, Hasan. “Can Education Have a Religious Foundation Today?” Religion and Education: Islamic and Christian Approaches, (Cambridge: The Islamic Academy, 1994) 11.
