According to mX (free rag made available on public transport in the city) Red Rooster is going halal! Notable quotes from the article include:
If Red Rooster has made the decision to make all of their chicken halal that’s appalling, because people need choice. … We think many Christians would be offended if they went into Red Rooster and had to eat halal meat. - Australian Christian Lobby spokesman David Yates
I would want to know beforehand and if I knew that any animal was killed with religious connotations I would not eat it. - Atheist Foundation of Australia spokesman David Nicholls who was also reported as saying he would “throw up” food that had been prepared religiously.
I would go so far as to say Halal slaughter in Australia is less cruel than orthodox Western methods. - RSPCA head Dr Hugh Wirth
Largely unbeknownst to the Islamophobes, Nandos already uses halal chicken as does Coles.
The article got the method of halal slaughter wrong though, saying that animals are stunned and then bled to death. Actually, they are supposed to be quickly killed by having their jugular arteries severed, and then the blood is drained. (Not that I am any expert on dhabiha slaughtering.)
