They Might Be Giants

July 7th, 2008

They Might Be Giants were one of the first groups to offer digital downloads of their music for sale on their website. This means cutting out the middlemen (all those studio execs who are tearing their hair out because of file-sharing). I have no sympathy for said middlemen but I do think it is important to financially support the creators of works by buying art directly from them if it is possible such as with TMBG.

Top 10 world thinkers are Muslim apparently

June 23rd, 2008

I’m finding this article a bit strange: Islamic scholar voted world’s No. 1 thinker. The bit that has me puzzled is this:

The top 10 individuals were all Muslim and included two Nobel laureates, the novelist Orhan Pamuk, who is also Turkish, at No 4, and the Iranian human rights lawyer Shirin Ebadi, in 10th.

The poll was organised by the British magazine Prospect and Foreign Policy, a US publication.

Ghouls and spooks and things

June 19th, 2008

Speaking of polytheism (and what’s with the shirk on Big Brother??? Moon-worshipping, audhubillah) I’m not a believe in the paranormal claptrap that gets shown on the telly (you know John Edwards etc). Having watched many episodes of Derren Brown doing his thing, there is simply no way I can stomach any of that stuff, it’s all a con. But if you’re interested in being spooked out, you can try and catch a ghost at the Abandoned Hospital. It’s a paranormal research project where a bunch of webcams have been set up in an abandoned hospital (the location of which is kept secret so it’s not vandalised). I streamed the audio and I did hear a couple of bumps (they were probably wind banging a door shut).
