Testing Invocation Plugin

February 5th, 2006

Bismillah
Asalamualikum
Usayd has written a plugin that places images and text of traditional invocations and blessings that Muslims use after the names of Allah (SWT) and Prophet Muhammad (SAWS).

There are lots of different little images and gifs to choose from and when you want to put a particular invocation after the name of the Prophet, you simply write the word and if required add a few characters. For example, if I want to have an alternative image that contains a glorification of the name of the Almighty Creator, I can write simply “Allah (SWT)” or “Allah (SWT)″ depending on which one I want to use.

Well, it definitely works, alhamdulillah, so a big jazakallahu khayran goes out to Usayd!!!

P.S. He also has a Hijri date plugin and service - woohoooo, off to download now.

Buy T-Shirts from Hijabman

June 11th, 2005

Just the other day my T-shirt from Hijabman arrived. I bet you can’t guess which one I ordered!

It’s wunnerful, I love it. I wore it today and the man from the shoe-shop said he liked my t-shirt! The quality is very good and I can heartily recommend buying t-shirts from Hijabman, not the least because profits go towards funding his Imam training.

The shirts he stocks say the following:
“My name causes national security alerts. What does yours do?”
“This is what a radical feminist Muslim looks like.”
“Good things come in small Pakis.”
“Make Chai Not War”

Anyway, please do consider buying a t-shirt from him. Having Hijabman as an Imam would be absolutely fantastic (but then we’d have to steal him away to Australia bwaaahahahahah) but also because they have great, thought-provoking messages on them.

I’ll post a piccy soon.

Khalas! Boro!

Backback - Online To Doing

May 12th, 2005

As some will remember, I was in search for the perfect “to do” app. Abu Yasmin made me a wonderful excel spreadsheet that works as a task management tool, but now there is an online service which looks really good and easy to use: Backpack. You can make lists, write notes to yourself, send reminders and if you are willing to pay upload files. Worth checking out if you are into task management stuff.

Qur’an Resource Page

March 18th, 2005

Comprehensive list of English translations, Qur’an tools and resources.

This is my attempt at trawling the web for each available English translations in .html, .txt, .pdf format. I managed to find nineteen different translations.

I also have listed parallel translations, transliterations, Arabic text, a hyperlinked edition, recitations, search facilities, concordance & dictionaries, manuscripts, tafsir information, software, essays and some non-Muslim stuff.

Enjoy!

Task Management Tool

March 14th, 2005

Abu Yasmin and I created a simple task management tool which is an Excel spreadsheet (be warned it has macros, I am pretty sure my computer doesn’t have a virus, but if you download and use it, I’m not to be held responsible if your computer up and dies on you or something).

I wanted something that would be quick and easy to run, fairly intuitive, allow me to assign dates to tasks if I wanted, that I could sort into a variety of categories, and would keep me on top of the numerous things I have to do now that I’m a free woman (not studying anymore).

Couldn’t find anything on the web that wasn’t huge and clunky or that I had to pay for. Anyway in the Creative Commons spirit of making useful stuff available to others, here is the collaborative work of Abu and Umm Yasmin:

Download here.

Feel free to email me or post a comment if you like it (or… errr.. not).
